Dubai Filipina empowers OFWs with free computer training

MANILA, Philippines – Cherry Pye Zablan-Torres, a Filipina working in Dubai, UAE, as an electronics and communication engineer, understands the importance of technology and how it changes lives.

“I took it upon myself to get certification courses,” she told Emirates publication The National. This Filipina community leader began as a personal assistant to a managing director of a firm in Dubai and now as the found and president of Filipino computer club, she trains Filipinos in technology and computer application skills.

According to The National, the club’s training includes teaching Microsoft Office, web design, graphics, multimedia, PC assembly and networking. They also teach classes in English and communication.

She told the paper, “A housemaid is now working as a personal assistant to a managing director, while a former petrol station attendant is a systems engineer at a reputable company.”

So far the center has been able to train more than 33,000 Filipinos in Dubai and the northern UAE.
